Travel & Venue

The wedding location + local favorites from the Bride & Groom…

Lodging

Zlac Rowing Club is located in the southwest corner of Pacific Beach, making it equally as convenient to stay in either Pacific Beach or Mission Beach. There are many vacation rentals nearby (even within walking distance.) If you would prefer to stay at a hotel, here are our top suggestions:

The Catamaran: Easy walking distance (you’ll walk right along the bay) straight to the venue.

The Bahia: Not walking distance but the Bahia Belle (a turn-of-the-century, Mississippi-style boat) will take you between the Catamaran and the Bahia. Great way to “tour” the Bay.

Paradise Point: Not walking distance but a beautiful resort-style property, including many rooms with patios directly on the sand and the bay.

AM = Coffee & Breakfast

For those of you who don’t know, Matt is a huge coffee snob but thinks he isn’t (cold brew only.) Alyssa is not a coffee snob but also loves supporting local spots. Below is a mix of his and her suggestions:

Coffee Cycle: This place is so so good, the staff is so friendly, and it’s owned by a super knowledgeable and passionate guy named Chris (ask for him and if he’s there, tell him we sent you!) One note, just make sure you’re not in a rush… they love their coffee which means they love to talk to you about it as they make it! Alyssa orders the Ethiopian Natural, Iced, but anything you get there will be top-notch.

Bird Rock Coffee Roasters: There are a few locations around San Diego but the closest is right here in PB. Matt orders the house cold brew with a splash of oat milk. 💁‍♂️

Better Buzz Coffee: Multiple locations within Mission Beach and Pacific Beach, so there’s bound to be one just around the corner from you. Alyssa orders the “Iced Best Drink, Half Sweet.” (Sorta an Iced Americano with Vanilla.)

PM = Drinking & Dining

C’mon, it’s us. You know we have to recommend our favorite beer bars, watering holes, and non-chains.

Amplified Ale Works: Great local craft beer list, solid food (think CA interpretation of Mediterranean-style), casual vibe. Their patio peeks at the ocean to give you a true taste of Pacific Beach living. We love it!!

TapRoom: Another solid craft beer spot. Food is quite pub-grubby but does the job. Lots of TVs, so a great spot to watch sports. Matt and Alyssa often walk and grab a beer here before grocery shopping at Sprouts across the street, because of course they do.

Vallarta Express: (To be fair, this is technically a local chain.) But if you’re looking for some easy, cheap, good, San Diego Taco Shop-style Mexican food… this is the spot. It is not fancy. It is not healthy. It is very good. It is what you need. Their green sauce and their orange sauce are both fantastic, so whatever you order, get both.

PB Ice Cream: Delicious ice cream shop with lots of creative flavors! The bride & groom highly recommend the waffle cones, they’re homemade and extra delicious.
